The recently unveiled images below provide a glimpse into what awaits Gi-hun, his mysterious foe the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), and additional characters entangled in the harrowing competition. One of the pictures shows a distraught Gi-hun shackled to a bed in the player dormitory. Lee Jung-jae expressed a profound connection with his character during the filming of the final six episodes of Squid Game.

"I considered the immense guilt that Gi-hun must have experienced with so many lives lost, particularly that of his close friend Jung-bae — I believed he couldn’t possibly be in a stable state of mind," the actor shares with Tudum. Yet, he alludes to a pivotal conversation in Season 3 that transforms Gi-hun’s perspective. "This moment could be incredibly moving … and it conveys a significant message about our inability to live in isolation; regardless of the misfortunes we face, the only option is to continue living."

What happens before Squid Game Season 3?

In the Season 2 finale,  Gi-hun attempts to rally his fellow competitors against the architects of the game. His plan seems to go well, as the rebels almost make it to the control center of the arena. But, the Front Man — who spends much of Season 2 hiding in plain sight as Player 001 — double crosses Gi-hun and crushes the uprising. In a devastating final twist of the knife, the Front Man kills Gi-hun’s best friend Jung-bae .

Lee Jung-jae isn’t so sure his character is aware of Player 001’s betrayal. “I don’t think he knows yet. I think he’s blaming himself for everything that happened,” the actor says. Season 3 will follow the final chapter in Gi-hun and the Front Man’s showdown.
