Trump says he didn’t know an offensive term he used in a speech is considered antisemitic
President Donald Trump stated that he was unaware the term "shylock" is viewed as antisemitic when he employed it in a speech to characterize unscrupulous moneylenders.
Trump informed reporters early Friday, following his return from an event in Iowa, that he had "never heard it that way" and had "never heard that" the term was regarded as an offensive stereotype regarding Jews.
Shylock is the name of the villainous Jewish moneylender in Shakespeare’s "The Merchant of Venice," who insists on a pound of flesh from a debtor.
